Dark times are ahead for a lot of superheroes, as DC Comics has announced that 2019 is the Year of the Villain.
It seems that the arrival of Doom Eternal has finally been worth waiting for. Id Software announced in 2019 that the release of Eternal would be postponed until March 2020 because they wanted to finish perfecting the game and provide the best work that their studio had done to date. And it seems that it has been.Doom (2016) is one of the best shooters of the current generation. A brutal, frenetic and amazing work that compiles wonderfully the essence of the Doom saga today and gives it a modern touch that fits like a glove to its bases. Now, if that Doom (2016) was already amazing, Doom Eternal breaks all its schemes and raises them to the nth power. Id Software and Bethesda's new title is arguably one of the best shooters we've ever played, and is well above its predecessor. Here we break down some elements that Doom Eternal does better than Doom (2016). Skirmishes with platformingIt seems silly, but the fact that Doom Eternal adds an element of zone control having to move from one platform to another to search for resources and flee in critical situations from demons, makes this sequel have a very light strategic component that does not I had Doom (2016).
In that excellent first part, the levels were much flatter, as far as combat zones are concerned. We only had a few platforms to get on and kill the demons.
The objective of this delivery was to face the demons head-on, without thinking about which enemy we were challenging and without having to worry too much about the ammunition, which was not as scarce as in Eternal. In this sequel, the platform component is increased by a verticality that we must study in the middle of the combats: areas that we can climb, objects that we can push ourselves into and even elements of the map that we can use in our favor to end the biggest enemies at a stroke. Of course, we will not get rid of having to be in constant contact with demons. Combination of weaponsYes, Doom (2016) also possessed a tremendously varied arsenal, offering the Slayer plenty of opportunities to eliminate his enemies in multiple ways and combinations. Now, what Doom Eternal offers the player is something unique. As we unlock weapons and upgrade props like the Crop Hook or Stick Shotgun Adhesive Bomb, we can perform incredible combos to destroy our enemies.

For example, if we throw an ice pellet at enemies to freeze them and then drop a shotgun bomb at them, they will all explode into a thousand pieces in nothing and less.Or, another example would be the clipped hook. We can use it to hit a demon and, once two centimeters from it, give it two shotguns and release the flamethrower to burn it from top to bottom. So to speak of the chainsaw and the long-distance grips we can do to chain one death after another. Doom Eternal offers a thousand and one ways to destroy our enemiesAnd that is due to the perfect arsenal it has (where absolutely nothing is missing or missing) and the accessories that we can unlock for each of the weapons. Top-gamesID Software has revealed what are the requirements to be able to move the new installment of the Doom PC sagaA narrative to accompany the killingThe good thing, and maybe the best thing, that Doom has (the saga in its entirety) is that you don't need to tell any story to be one of the greats. The narrative in Doom has never been important, nor has it been one of the factors why the public came as a claim to the saga. Doom is just kill, kill and kill.
Heavy music in the background and many demons in between. However, Doom Eternal has tried to correct that course and add some plot. While it is true that it is nothing from the other world and that it is not really that it contributes too much, the story that Eternal tells us makes progress levels make more sense and, at least, we have objectives to meet.
Not the ones imposed by the game, but the ones marked by history. It is an addition that has not gone bad and we hope that it will be repeated in future installments of the saga. In addition, it has served to get to know our Slayer and the lore of Doom more closely. Perfect gunplayGenerally, one of the points that most often matters in first person shooters is the feeling of weight and recoil that weapons transmit. If we see, for example, Counter-Strike, weapons have great strength and make recoil a very important element to control.
Unlike in Overwatch, where the sensation of firing a weapon is practically nil, since there is no type of recoil in the weapons or feeling of weight in them. We only notice it depending on the type of character we choose, if it moves faster or slower. Doom Eternal achieves something that Doom (2016) had yet to finish perfecting entirely: the weapons feel powerful and at the same time we can “fly” around the map. With two dodges and double jump active, the speed at which we can move through the battle zones is extremely high. And even more if we add a high camera speed.
Nevertheless, In Doom Eternal we can feel what type of weapon we are using thanks to its power. Shotguns feel firmer, harder and more powerful. While, on the other hand, the machine guns are somewhat lighter and it does not give the impression that we are producing large impacts, but rather massive bullet discharges.
All this, without losing an iota of mobility and speed, which makes the gunplay perfect and very satisfying. Mick Gordon tells us how he created the Doom Eternal soundtrack, which will be on sale on March 20 for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia and will feature an incredible Heavy Metal choir. If it doesn't give you the chills, it's because you don't have blood in your veins Complete upgrade systemCrystals, runes, accessories, damage improvements, health, armor The possibilities of improving our Slayer in Doom Eternal are practically endless (to be a Doom). Here, we can really feel that our character is becoming an extremely powerful being due to the number of improvements that we can incorporate in weapons, in our armor, in the accessories that we attach to the arsenal, etc. It is possible that at the beginning of the game it is a factor that can confuse many players, since there is a lot of information to assume and Doom has always been characterized by being very simple in those areas of personalization and progression. But once we have it controlled, we enjoy the title much more and the little things that we can improve to be a real killing machine.
Encourage meleeIn Doom (2016) most of the resources we needed were distributed across the stage. The combat zones were full of ammunition, life and armor, so the best tactic was not to get close to the demons and go around the areas in search of items that would help us to completely resupply during battles. In Doom Eternal that has changed a bit.
Now, if we want ammunition, health and so on we have to go kill the demons melee. Either knock them out once they are weakened, or with our chainsaw. Close combat here is much more important and practically mandatory. The platform that we mentioned before is an addition to this combat system that makes us constantly in contact with enemies in order to continue living and shooting. The clipped hook, for example, is one of the most useful accessories to get demon resources, since it leaves us in front of them. Other tactics such as using the combat fist can also work if we have several enemies in front of us.The thing about running around the stage without rhyme or reason to try to survive, no longer works as well as before, since here the ammunition and health are the demons.
Few things we will find if we prowl around the stage senselessly. Enemies must be analyzedIn line with what we told you in the upper paragraph, if we want to get resources we must go for the demons, but not in any way. In Doom (2016) we only had to hit the enemies in hoof. That is, as much as we could with all the available arsenal that we had in our hands. In Doom Eternal, however, you have to carefully select the weapons with which we attack demons. Each one has a series of weak points that must be analyzed and damaged with a specific type of weapon. Shooting for no reason here is not worth it, because we will die before we know it.
We must create strategies and tactics that allow us to kill demons easily, saving bullets and health. And if we want to recover those elements, we will have to see what weapons allow us to do it: the chainsaw will give us everything, but the flamethrower will give us armor.
You have to know what execution and weapons to use for each case, looking at what we need and the enemies that we have in front of us. Further exploration on mapsTo fight, very lightly, against the linearity, Doom Eternal allows the player to explore the different levels much more in search of collectibles, secrets or hidden areas. This is enhanced thanks to the platform that we mentioned at the beginning of the text, which offers users the possibility of moving with a little more freedom through the different areas of the game in order to break with the linear methodology we had in Doom (2016), which fell a little short on exploration. It is true that sometimes it breaks a bit with the frenetic pace of action that characterizes the saga, but it is also true that it allows you to take a break if we have just come out of a limit situation or liquidated a boss.
So it is also appreciated that we have some calm minutes to recover ammunition, improve equipment and get everything ready for the next match. Also, exploring hell is not a bad option either. Faster, more action, more blood In short, Doom Eternal is much more complete than Doom (2016). We have more action, more enemies, more executions, more weapons and more than you want. Id Software has managed to combine the best elements of his previous work and improve them to the maximum. It may be, without a doubt, one of the best Doom deliveries that we will ever have.In our analysis we said the following: “ A whole ode to the most wild action games.
DOOM Eternal grows in possibilities in every way, keeping much of the essence of what made the 2016 DOOM special. If you are a fan of tireless shooting and enjoy testing your skills, this title will offer you fun for a good handful of hours, just considering your campaign.“.
